Small Garden / Courtyard Ideas

How to best utilise your compact spaces to make them stunning sanctuary.

Having a small outdoor space doesn’t necessarily mean that the space cannot be utilized or enjoyed. There are many ways to improve small spaces to be enjoyed, whether it just be sitting enjoying the sun, alfresco dining or evening setting up a small allotment.

The best place to start is to see how the light works in the garden. Is it best in the morning, afternoon, does the garden lack lighting. Looking at this will help decipher how to best use the space for what you intend.

Secondly, you will need to work out how you would like to use the space. Perhaps you want to entertain friends, al fresco dining, relaxing or somewhere to escape to.

Once you have decided what you would like to use your space for and how the lighting moves through the day you can begin to design your space.

WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR SPACE

Escapism

Lets face it, we all need a little oasis that we can escape to. Just because you have a small space to work with doesn’t mean you have to compromise on this.

If you are looking for escapism using natural colours is essential. Using vertical growing plants will provide a sense of peace.

Add a space for sitting, perhaps an inset bench or chair, somewhere where you can unwind at the end of the day.

You can also add a water feature if you choose, this will instil the sense of peace and relaxation.

Alfresco Dining

During the summer months, most people want to enjoy the sunshine and soak their outside space while dining outside.
